101st Winnipeg Music Festival

Congratulations to our choirs on outstanding performances to the Winnipeg Music Festival yesterday.  It was a beautiful day of making music and listening to other choirs from around the city.

Shining Stars

Congratulations on the fantastic singing today by the Grade 2/3 choir at the 99th annual Winnipeg Music Festival.  I was so proud of these 100 kids for the effort they put in to do their best.  We received a silver medal today.

Why singing?

Singing is...

= a part of our cultural heritage

= a way of exploring the elements of music

=  a way of exploring the forms and styles of music

= a way of expressing musical ideas

= a way of sharing music with others

= providing an opportunity to use your personal instrument (voice)

= allowing students to vocally manipulate sound

= enabling students to gain confidence in the sound and feeling of their singing voice

NOTE TO PARENTS: General admission has increased to $5 per session, with free admission for children 12 and under. $25 season passes (admission to all Festival sessions and concerts) and $10 programs will be available at the WMF office (Click on link for office address) in mid-February as well as at all venues during the 2017 Festival.

Singing Proud!

I write this post with some tears in my eyes because today at the annual 98th Winnipeg Music Festival, our Grade 4 and 5 choir made me so proud.  They should be proud of their work in the past week and today's performance.  It's not been without pain, sweat and tears (and ALOT of noise!), but they pulled together and REALLY showed their singing skills and represented our school well.  Congratulations to both Stevenson choirs on your silver medals!

2016 Stevenson Grade 2/3 Choir @ Music Celebration

I was SOOOOO proud of our Grade 2/3 choir tonight.  We sang at the annual SJASD Music Celebration and we had a GREAT turn-out.  This choir has a really lovely sound and there was alot of great things going on with their performance.  Congratulations.  We look forward to competing at the Winnipeg Music Festival on Monday, February 29th.

Performance Week

GRADE 4/5:
Tomorrow, the Grade 4/5 choir is heading to Westminster United Church (map) to sing at the 97th Annual Winnipeg Music Festival.  We are leaving around 9:15 a.m.   We sing first at 10:00 a.m. and will stay to hear a few other group.  We are returning by 11:00 a.m.

Please wear dark pants (black preferred) and a short sleeve t-shirt.

Families are welcome to come and hear us sing.  It's $4.00 at the door (cash only).

GRADE 2/3:
On Tuesday, the Grade 2/3 choir is singing at the 97th Winnipeg Music Festival at Westminister United Church (map).  We are leaving around 12:00 p.m. and singing at 12:45 p.m  We will stay and listen to a few choirs and will back by 1:30 p.m.

All students need to bring their lunches.  We are all eating at 11:15 at the school.

Students are to wear dark pants (black preferred) and a short sleeve t-shirt.

Families are welcome to come and hear us sing.  It's $4.00 at the door (cash only).

ASSEMBLY:
On Wednesday, March 4, the choirs are all singing at our 9:00 a.m. assembly.  Families are welcome to hear our awesome choirs.

Permission forms went home today for all Grade 4/5 and Grade 2/3 students regarding upcoming music field trips.  Please return them  immediately to the school.
