Winnipeg Music Festival

All Grade 3/4/5 choirs have been busy learning their songs for the Winnipeg Music Festival which is coming up on Monday.  Parents, please see the note that was sent home today.  We will have their performances available at parent conferences as well as we will be performing out our Stevenson Idol Talent Show on Wednesday, April 29.

Congratulations to our choirs on outstanding performances to the Winnipeg Music Festival yesterday.  It was a beautiful day of making music and listening to other choirs from around the city.

Getting ready to watch the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra

 The Grade 4/5's went to a fantastic show at the Centennial Concert Hall this afternoon.  We watched the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra play and heard the St. Jame's Children's Choir and Junior Choir sing several numbers.  It was magical and informative as we learned about various Canadian composers and the interesting numbers they created.  Other special performers joined the show including a special lyrical dance, a tabla drummer, a recorder and string group, and a French singer.

Shining Stars

Congratulations on the fantastic singing today by the Grade 2/3 choir at the 99th annual Winnipeg Music Festival.  I was so proud of these 100 kids for the effort they put in to do their best.  We received a silver medal today.

NOTE TO PARENTS: General admission has increased to $5 per session, with free admission for children 12 and under. $25 season passes (admission to all Festival sessions and concerts) and $10 programs will be available at the WMF office (Click on link for office address) in mid-February as well as at all venues during the 2017 Festival.

Musical Magic

Congratulations to all the St. James Music Theatre kids, staff, volunteers, and of course the amazing Mrs. Paula Olko (director) for your amazing work on James and the Giant Peach Jr.  The Grade 4/5 classes were able to go on Monday, January 30th and it was very well done.  Way to go Jessica and Kiera on this big accomplishment.  Your singing and dancing were superb!

Grade 4/5 students will be going with Ms. Rempel to the show on Monday, January 30th in the morning.  Parents, please have field trip form in ASAP.

Featuring a wickedly tuneful score and a witty and charming book, this adventurous musical about courage and self-discovery is destined to be a classic.

When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach, rolls into the ocean and launches a journey of enormous proportions. James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece of fruit across the ocean, facing hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements along the way.

Musical Discoveries

On Monday, the Grade 2/3 classes had the amazing opportunity to go to the Centennial Concert Hall to hear our very own Winnipeg Music Symphony.  Check out some of the students responses...

Before we even went, we did several lessons and activities about the music so we had some ideas of what we liked and what we could look and listen for.  Check out the tab "WSO Gr. 2/3" for more of the songs and dances we heard.

I was just reading Mrs. Grant's classroom blog about their trip to the fire station this week and their pictures reminded me of my time teaching in South Korea.  Here was my Kindergarten's field trip to a fire station.

Lion King Jr.

Congratulations to Cast 2 and Paula Olko on your performance of Lion King Jr.  Today the Grade 4/5's went to the show at Westwood and we really enjoyed it.  Congratulations Bailey and the rest of the cast on a job well done!

Bringing Christmas Cheer

On Monday, Dec. 14, 40 Grade 3-5 students went to Calvary Place Personal Carehome to bring some holiday cheer to the residents.  Thank-you Mrs. Kappy and staff for inviting us.  We loved coming and sharing our music with you.

Performance Week

GRADE 4/5:
Tomorrow, the Grade 4/5 choir is heading to Westminster United Church (map) to sing at the 97th Annual Winnipeg Music Festival.  We are leaving around 9:15 a.m.   We sing first at 10:00 a.m. and will stay to hear a few other group.  We are returning by 11:00 a.m.

Please wear dark pants (black preferred) and a short sleeve t-shirt.

Families are welcome to come and hear us sing.  It's $4.00 at the door (cash only).

GRADE 2/3:
On Tuesday, the Grade 2/3 choir is singing at the 97th Winnipeg Music Festival at Westminister United Church (map).  We are leaving around 12:00 p.m. and singing at 12:45 p.m  We will stay and listen to a few choirs and will back by 1:30 p.m.

All students need to bring their lunches.  We are all eating at 11:15 at the school.

Students are to wear dark pants (black preferred) and a short sleeve t-shirt.

Families are welcome to come and hear us sing.  It's $4.00 at the door (cash only).

ASSEMBLY:
On Wednesday, March 4, the choirs are all singing at our 9:00 a.m. assembly.  Families are welcome to hear our awesome choirs.

Musical Discoveries

Grade 1, 2 and 3 classes have been learning 10 symphony songs in the past 2 weeks.  We are heading to the Centennial Concert Hall on Monday, January 19 for this exciting performance.  Reminder to parents that day care students need to bring a bag lunch as they will be staying at the school up on our return around 12:00.  As well, students are encouraged to dress up in their best as we are attending a professional concert.
